Jamming to some Matthew Sweet today. The title track from his 1991 album Girlfriend, this is probably Sweet’s most recognizable and commercially successful tune, earning him appearances on various late night television shows. The album peaked at 100 in the Billboard Top 200 and was influenced heavily by Sweet’s divorce. Robert Quine, who played on albums with Tom Waits, Lou Reed, and Richard Hell, is featured playing the spastic, blues-driven lead. One of the forgotten gems of the early 90’s.
